Eviction Team Meeting
With the return of eviction court in September, Durham CAN will resume its eviction court-watching campaign. When the campaign began in August of 2019, eviction filings began to drop. The simple action of listening in on proceedings provides necessary oversight and accountability over a harmful system that disproportionately affects Black women, especially single mothers. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) could ameliorate the potential tsunami of evictions, but it has had a slow roll-out in Durham and is therefore also in need of oversight and accountability.
