2020 was a year of disorganizing and reorganizing for Durham CAN. The social changes associated with the Covid-19 pandemic required us to develop new modes of organizing, relationship development, and power building. The pandemic also made the existing emergencies in the the communities we organize with even more pronounced. In the face of these challenges, Durham CAN recruited new institutions, trained new leaders, caused powerful change through our action teams, and examined how race, racism, whiteness and white supremacy inform our organizing and organization. As Durham residents came together to fight for criminal justice reform, living wages, and affordable housing, the relationships we developed as result will continue to be a source of power in the years to come.
